DAA Issues & Eggs: Congress Avenue Urban Design Initiative

  • Brazos Hall 204 East 4th Street Austin, Texas 78701 (map)

The Downtown Austin Alliance, in partnership with the City of Austin and various community stakeholder groups, is hosting an Issues & Eggs forum to gather community feedback as a new vision for Congress Avenue is developed. This new vision will provide direction for an urban design initiative, which will inform plans for future improvements to Congress Avenue.

This meeting, along with a Public Open House the City will hold on May 12, will help to determine the urban design initiative scope. They will be the first in a large-scale public engagement process, during which the City and the Alliance are committed to involving the community to best assess the needs of our constituents and make this initiative a success.

Design is slated to begin in early 2016, during which time the project team will solicit more detailed feedback from local businesses, residents, and the city of Austin at large to define the character, functional elements, and management structures of the City’s pre-eminent Avenue. The boundaries of the project are generally located along Congress Avenue north of Riverside Drive to the Capitol.

This project is made possible with funding from the City's 2012 bond program.
