Celebrate the heat with the longest event on the Hottest Day of the year. Ride one or all three stages of the Hottest Day of the Year. Ride, Dinner, Evening Benefit Party! Riding a bicycle in the Texas heat gets a bad rap! Pessimists predict spontaneous combustion for the outdoor recreationist upon contact with the afternoon sun, or warn of an unattractive transformation into a sweaty puddle of bad hair and permanent shirt stains after the mildest of exertions. In contrast to the disbelievers, we at Bike Austin believe that being outside in the heat is no big deal, and we want to show the world that anyone can ride a bike on the Hottest Day of the Year. With proper clothing, hydration, and an open mind, we believe going by bike to the park, to the pool, a cafe, or for ice cream (esp. for ice cream) is completely do-able, fun, and preferable for cyclists at all levels.
The Benefit Post Ride Party
The party will be held on Alta’s Cafe deck overlooking Lady Bird Lake. Starting around 7 pm, featuring cool breezes, bats in flight, a DJ, cheap (but good) drinks, and door prizes. Bike Austin President Erick Benz will give an update on Bike Austin and our plans through the end of the year and beyond. You are welcome to participate in all or part of the ride, or the party only. We look forward to seeing you there!
Ride checklist: Wear sunscreen. Bring water bottles, swimwear, spare bike tube, lock, cash for food, and money for the Bike Austin benefit party. Lights to ride home after the party. Don’t forget your bike. Helmets are recommended but not required for the ride. Helmets are recommended but not required for participation in the event. If you do not wear a helmet you are riding at your own risk and will not hold Bike Austin liable for any injuries resulting from not wearing a helmet.
The leisurely bicycle ride will include stops for:
- swimming pools!
- tasty beverages!
If you have to miss the ride, you are invited to attend the Bike Austin Hottest Day of the Year Benefit Party. The ride will end at the benefit party location, Alta’s Cafe, 74 Trinity St.
(http://altascafe.com/hours-location/), where we are planning some special festivities for our supporters.
